"As an incredibly thoughtful and strategic leader, Arielle restructured our division’s bi-annual staff retreat. She scouted and selected a location with intentionality and developed a strategic schedule and program for the agenda when in previous years, our retreats felt like an all day staff meeting. Arielle was able to elevate the experience and allowed our team to reflect upon the past semester, understand how our team was working now, and developed intentional plans for steps to take in the future. I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with Arielle, and to witness her create a systematic and strategic shift in thinking amongst the team in such a short amount of time."

Hey there!
I'm Arielle Newby
Founder & President for EmpowerED Pathways Consulting Inc.
This is my Story
I am no stranger to life and career path changes nor adapting to my passions leading me in different directions. From childhood through my undergrad graduation, I wanted to be a lawyer. True to being a Virgo, I mapped out my plans and I followed the paths that would lead me to my goals. The universe had other plans and I learned I had dealbreakers, challenges and desires that would lead me to a different path. However, my goals to create and advocate for equity, justice and belonging never changed. Instead of enrolling in law school, I chose to work in higher education creating spaces to foster community, impact progression and support student development.
Student development and self-actualization are important to me. My career and community advocacy have been shaped by putting future generations first and fostering a culture of community through cultural competency and belonging.
My Professional Story:
I began my career in higher education in 2013 at William & Mary Law School coordinating and implementing programs for the Office of Career Services. I later transitioned to the Office of the Provost supporting university-wide academic and faculty affairs while obtaining my master’s degree. I worked in William & Mary’s Dean of Students Office, where I served as an Assistant Director of Community Values and Restorative Practices (CVRP) and an Assistant Director of Student Services. In CVRP, I determined possible violations of the Conduct and Honor Codes. In my role as Assistant Director of Student Services, I managed Student Success-wide programming to enhance retention, persistence and graduation rates. In addition, I case-managed students in need of academic, social and wellness support. I returned to the Law School, working on behalf of the student body as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs and served as Acting Associate Dean for Student Affairs & Academic Support.
While at William & Mary, I was elected to lead professional employee organizations built on creating advocacy and equity. I am a former Staff Liaison to the university's Board of Visitors, Staff Assembly President and Black Faculty & Staff Co-Chair. Furthermore, I have worked with the university's most senior leaders to develop programs to impact employee engagement, flourishing and belonging.
My Education:
I am currently a Ph.D. Student in Higher Education Administration at William & Mary. I have an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from William & Mary and a B.A. in Political Science from Hampton University.
